Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Dover, NH

Flexible Treatment That Fits Your Recovery
HearthWell’s intensive outpatient program gives you structured clinical support with the independence to keep up with work, school, or family. You come to us for treatment during the day, then return to your everyday life — and as your needs change, your care can change with you.
What IOP Is — and Who It's For
IOP fits people at different points in recovery. Some come to us stepping down from a higher level of care; others are beginning treatment for the first time.
In IOP, you’ll work with experienced clinicians and peers to strengthen your recovery, build healthy coping skills, and stay accountable while balancing work, school, or family responsibilities. And because IOP is part of HearthWell’s connected step-up/step-down path, your level of support can change as your needs do — without discharge, and without starting over.
What's Included
Your IOP treatment is built around a plan created for you, and includes:
- Evidence-based group therapy
- Individual counseling
- Recovery and life skills education
- Relapse prevention planning
- Case management
- Ongoing support and accountability
Program Schedule
We offer two IOP schedules so you can match treatment to your needs and responsibilities:
- IOP 5 — Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- IOP 3 — Three days per week, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Where IOP Fits in Your Care
IOP corresponds to ASAM Level 2.1 — the nationally recognized framework for matching treatment intensity to clinical need.
Because IOP is one level on HearthWell’s connected path of care, your treatment can step up or down with you as your needs change — guided by clinical assessment, without being discharged and without starting over. If you need more structure, many people step up to our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP).

Not Sure IOP Is the Right Level?
A confidential assessment with our admissions team helps determine the level of care that fits your individual needs — you don’t have to figure that out alone. And if something else is a better starting point, we’ll help you find it.
Some people need medical support through withdrawal (detox), round-the-clock care, or emergency help before outpatient treatment is the right fit. HearthWell doesn’t provide those on-site, but we’ll point you toward the right next step.
